Get Ready
So you’re still working on getting calculus-ready? You’re going to have to take 2 or 3 classes, and the problem is, what other classes will you take during that time? Sure you could take some core courses, but then what will you take while you’re taking your Engineering courses? It’s a real problem, and you could risk wasting time and money.
Engineering Technology at ACC
As an alternative, we suggest that students who are not yet Calculus-ready declare themselves as Engineering Technology majors instead of Engineering majors, and be part of ACC’s Pre-engineering Institute! Then while you’re taking your math courses, you can also take some hands-on courses that teach you real-world skills that look great on a resume!
When you’re done with the three-semester Pre-engineering sequence, you have a number of options:
- Get a Certificate in Engineering Technology and get a well-paying job as a technician.
- Stay on to get an Associates of Applied Science in Engineering Technology which can open up a number of career options.
- Switch to an Engineering major and dive in to the Engineering program!
Why Engineering Technology?
Engineering Technology majors get direct hands-on experience with electronic equipment and troubleshooting tools. Engineering programs focus on theory, but having the hands-on experience will give you an edge in problem-solving and allow you to develop new technical skills that will serve you in getting hired as a technician or an engineer.
