Amanda was the QC/Manufacturing intern during the fall 2015 semester at Spot*On Sciences, Inc. in Austin, Texas. They have patents for two types of blood collection devices which they manufacture in-house. Medical devices are regulated by the FDA so Amanda stays busy with tasks such as formalizing inspection procedures, improving written documentation (such as revising SOPs, improving user instructions, and labeling diagrams for clarification), testing the devices, and assembling products when orders are received. Amanda credits ACCs biotechnology program preparing her well for industry jobs”…professors did a great job reinforcing lab safety and hygiene skills while also preparing students to use the time and space in the lab wisely. To sum it all up Amanda declares, “ACC was rigorous about expectations of professional conduct.”
